Your own AI. On a drive.

A USB drive that sets up private, offline AI on the laptop you already own in a few minutes. No cloud account. No API bill. No setup headache.

Works with Apple Silicon Macs and Windows 11.

Four steps from plug-in to first answer, all offline.

Plug it in

Sped up for the loop. On a real laptop, plug-in to first answer is a few minutes; most of it copying models.

What’s on the drive

A working product, not a pile of files.

The drive carries everything; your laptop does the thinking. The installer copies the AI to your machine so it runs at full speed, even with the drive unplugged.

Install Offline Base.app

Application · Mac & Windows

One-click setup

Plug it in, run one file, and the drive installs everything on your laptop. It copies the models across, verifies them, and opens the chat app. No terminal wrangling, no accounts.

Planned for Base Drive

Web search and cloud escalation, explained.

Two different ways the AI can reach past your laptop, and they are not the same thing. One looks something up; the other borrows a bigger model. Both stop and ask you first, and both name exactly what would leave.

The two routes that leave your laptop are tagged: each asks for your approval first, and says exactly what would be sent.

Base Drive answers entirely on your laptop today, with no network involved at all, and a local-only mode is planned to keep it that way for good.

Outside help is not in the shipping build. As designed, it stays off until you turn it on, asks before anything leaves, names exactly what would be sent, and routes only to United States–hosted providers under zero-data-retention terms — providers contractually barred from storing your request or training on it. If no such provider is available, it is designed to fail rather than route to one that logs.

Base Drive and Base Router are in development and not available to order. Prices, specifications, model lists, and dates on this page are current targets and may change before launch.

Why trust a USB drive?

Built to be inspected.

“Why would I plug a random USB into my laptop?” is the right question. Here’s our answer.

Anyone can check nothing was tampered with

The installer is open source and every file on the drive is listed. Each drive ships with published checksums (SHA-256), short fingerprints that change if a file is altered in any way, and setup verifies them before copying anything. Nothing hidden executes when you plug it in.

Why your laptop may show a warning

The installer isn't signed with Apple or Microsoft yet, so the first run shows the standard “unidentified developer” warning. That's expected for now: signing and notarization work is still in progress, and you can inspect every file before you run anything.

Nothing phones home

No account, no telemetry, no usage meter. The app talks to the model only inside your own machine (localhost), so nothing you type leaves your laptop, and after setup you can turn Wi-Fi off and it keeps working. Web search and cloud escalation are planned additions, not part of the shipping build; when they arrive they stay off until you turn them on.

What it costs

One drive, one price.

Base Drive will be $19.99, about what one month of a chatbot subscription costs, except you pay it once and keep the thing. No tiers to compare. It cannot be ordered yet.
